Sky Lanterns are traditionally released in northern Thailand during the Full Moon Festival (yee peng festival). Typically, they make a wish when releasing a lantern. the more the lantern flies up and away, the more likely their wish will be heard. For Thais, sky lanterns are a form of knowledge, and the light that rises is able to guide them on the path of their lives.
Currently the release of lanterns is a social phenomenon in the UK, USA and Brazil and is very successful at weddings.
